Integrative Counselling

What is Integrative Counselling?

Integrative counselling combines elements of different counselling theory.  I have studied person centred, psychodynamic and existential theory and can use my knowledge to draw on the most appropriate elements of each theory, individualising my work to suit my clients. Integretive counselling takes place in my counselling room in Biggleswade or London, or online.

As a therapist I work to understand the world from your perspective.  I believe that by showing you respect, empathy and being my most true self in our relationship, I provide a space for you to be free to feel and say what you need to in order to grow and heal.  Person Centred Theory was created by Carl Rogers in the 1950s. He believed that by showing clients the core conditions of empathy, unconditional positive regard and congruence, a person can 'self actualise' (live to their full potential). A person centred therapist believes that the client is the expert of their own life and so listens, respects and supports, but doesn't give any advice. 

Psychodynamic counselling helps the client explore their unconscious thoughts and feelings by helping them explore these through talking therapy. We may talk about your past and about your dreams. 

Freud is the prominent figure in psychodynamic theory.  Psychodynamic theorists believe that events that happen in the past and early childhood, influence our current behaviour and attitudes. 

Existential counselling helps the client explore their place in the world and what it means to be alive. Existential counsellors believe that we all have the freedom to make choices and we are responsible for these choices.
